“[HMG] – After spending almost a month bidding farewell to his fans before going to jail, Lil Wayne has been temporarily saved by his teeth.
Wayne [born, Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.] was arraigned last October on a charge of ‘Attempted criminal possession of a weapon’ after officers from the NYPD searched his tour bus in July of ‘07 and found a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun.
He entered a plea deal, and is now facing one year in city jail. But good behavior could get him out in eight months.
The 27-year old rapper, who once told Jimmy Kimmel his jewel-speckled teeth cost $150,000, informed the court he needs to get the sparklers fixed before serving his time. So the court stalled his sentencing.
His lawyer. Stacey Richman says Wayne is now heading home to Miami for the work, but refused to say what needs to get done.
“It is a medical situation that – like it would for any of us – needs to be fixed,” she told OMG.
His new sentencing is now set for March 2nd.
But even once he’s released, Wayne has more legal troubles; His tour bus was stopped at a US Border Patrol checkpoint in Yuma, Arizona in January last year, and police say they found cocaine, ecstasy and a loaded gun.
He’s now due to stand trial on March 30, faced with ‘Felony drug possession’ and yet more weapons charges.
And this is the same guy who scored the top-selling album of 2008, has the best-selling album on iTunes, and was one of the best acts in January’s Grammy’s.
